5 Steps To Getting Started On A Brand Photo Refresh

Let's dive straight in, and if you haven't yet read it, this blog leads on from my previous blog:

'5 Signs You Need To Refresh Your Brand Photos'

1.     Assess your current visuals

Audit all of your platforms – you LinkedIn, your Facebook, your Instagram…and don’t forget your website and any other marketing materials you may have, including those standalone sales pages and lead magnet sign up forms.

2.     Define your brand identity

Your brand identity is so much more than a colour scheme…but you knew that already right?

Outline your core values, what makes your brand YOU, and how you embody it. Look at your ideal target audience – who do you want to attract with your branding, and what is your visual style? Is there something that identifies you – something that people know you by? This could be an item of clothing, or a certain colour (you’ll often see me wearing red, or any primary colour, and as a photographer I’m known as using light, colour and texture to make your images ‘pop’ off the page).

But I do get it…identifying your brand identity can be hard – I speak from experience of being in the Military for 16 years, in a highly disciplined environment and wearing uniform everyday…figuring out your true authentic, would-recognise-your-work-anywhere identity is hard…my friend and client Vicky Harrison of @empowerbeyondstrategy is a Personal Branding Strategist and one of the best there is (you can also see her at the top of this blog!) – reach out to her if you need some help as she does a fab complimentary branding audit!

3.     Plan your photoshoot

Ah the fun bit…or at least it should be!

I’m not going to beat around the bush (I never do!) but there is a stressful way to do this, and a calm, fun, exciting way to do this…if you want to find out how I do it (it’s the fun way, I promise), then jump over to my blog on ‘How I Plan A Brand Shoot’ – I’ve linked it at the bottom for you 😊

4.     Create a versatile shot list

Have a good think – where do you want to use these shots…then make yourself a list of the types of shot you need for each area.

Headshots for LinkedIn and areas of your website (I always suggest these for your About page and any contact forms to create connection), lifestyle images for your Instagram, product photos, flat lays, stock photos, action shots, shots with props….there are so many different types of shots, so to stop you feeling lost on the day, make sure you have a starter list written out to give some direction on the day.

5.     Think long term

I say this time and time again, you want to get value from any investment you make, and a branding shoot is no different! Don’t just think about what you need the images for now, but look 6-9 months ahead…offer launches, promotions, podcast episodes, book launches, products being tested…there are so many ways to make your shots work for you – it just takes some planning!

If you are looking for a photographer who recognises the investment you are making with you time, energy and finances…someone who will guide you through the whole process and make sure you get the most value possible out of your shoot…then you’ve come to the right place 😊
